Eli’s Coming

In an episode of the long canceled Aaron Sorkin show “Sports Night” one of the characters talks about his fear that something bad is imminent. He refers to this feeling of dread as “Eli’s comin’”. He is referring to the song by Three Dog Night. The song chronicles a young man named Eli who will inevitably break the hearts of all the young women he meets. The character misconstrues the song however, taking “Eli” as a metaphor for a harbinger of bad things.

Today I was thinking about that song and about its possible prophetic meaning. I do not have any premonitions about doom on the horizon, but “Eli” may be coming all the same.
